Osteoporosis Focused Physiotherapy/Bonefit

Osteoporosis is a bone disease that occurs when the body loses too much bone, makes too little bone, or both. As a result, bones become weak and may break from a fall or, in serious cases, from sneezing or minor bumps. Osteoporosis can cause fragility fractures. The bone breaks easily because it is weak.

Osteoporosis Canada has a program called Bone FitTM . The program provides education and training to health professionals. They learn what exercises are safe and effective for people with Osteoporosis. A Bone Fit professional can help you plan and execute an exercises program.

Anshul from Physio Care is a Bone Fit professional that can help you have healthy bones.

What type of exercises would I do?

Exercises is recommended for all people with Osteoporosis, even people who have had a spine or hip fracture.

Experts recommend 4 types of exercises:

  1. Strength exercises to keep you strong and fit.
  2. Posture exercises to keep you standing tall and not stooped.
  3. Balance exercises to help you be more stable on your feet. You can walk more easily and good balance helps prevent falls.
  4. Aerobic physical activities to improve your overall health. It can reduce your risk of disease.

We would do a thorough assessment to determine your current status and underlying conditions. Based on our assessment, we will discuss with you and come up with the most appropriate exercises program for you.
